Community Connections

Many years ago, the “Food Cupboard” was started by a team of churches in response to need in our community; Ascension was one of those churches.

Over time the “Nelson Community Food Centre” has grown into an entity of its own—still heavily supported by the churches of Nelson.

The Nelson Community Food Centre leases space in the basement of the United Church at Silica and Josephine Streets. St. Saviour's Anglican Church also has a smaller Food Pantry for the community.

Ascension regularly supports both the Nelson Community Food Centre and the St. Saviour's Food Pantry with food and funding donations.

We have specific food drives at Thanksgiving and during the four weeks of Advent that provide substantial amounts of non-perishable foods as well as year-round collection and donations.
